When I started looking for a wedding band, traditional options just didn't click. Nothing felt right. Then I stumbled across Patrick Adair Designs online and was immediately blown away by their meteorite rings. The problem? They were way outside my budget.

I love space, so having meteorite in my ring was non-negotiable for me. That led me to the Stardust ring, which became the perfect compromise. The concept is incredible: glow-in-the-dark stone powder that charges up in sunlight or under lights, paired with authentic Muonionalusta meteorite shavings in the inlay. It's exactly the kind of unique, space-inspired piece I wanted.

This review has been a journey to write, because my experience with Patrick Adair Designs has had real ups and downs. The design itself? I'm still in love with it. The path to getting here? That's been more complicated. And the ending? They're making it right, which matters.

Stardust Ring

Ordering and First Impressions

I took sizing seriously. I printed their ring sizing kit and measured myself as a size 12. Just to be sure, I went to a local jeweler who confirmed the same size. Confident, I placed the order.

The ring arrived and sat in its box for a few months until my wedding day, August 15, 2024. When my wife slipped it onto my finger, it felt amazing. That feeling didn't last long, though. After a few days of wear, I noticed it was slipping off. It was too loose.

To make matters more complicated, I had assumed the metal would be black based on the primary image on their site. My mistake, but I hadn't clicked through the full gallery, which shows it's actually a shiny chrome material. I really wanted a black metal band, so this was a disappointment I brought on myself, but one that could have been avoided with clearer imagery or better browsing on my part.

The Resizing and Material Swap

I reached out to Patrick Adair Designs about the sizing issue. They were helpful and explained their policy: one free resizing per purchase. Because of the intricate inlay, they can't simply resize the ring. They have to remake it entirely.

During that conversation, I asked about black material options. They offered black ceramic or carbon fiber. I did some research and learned ceramic rings can be fragile, so I opted for carbon fiber and requested a full remake in that material.

When the new ring arrived, I absolutely loved it. The Stardust design in carbon fiber was stunning, and the weight difference was remarkable. It's so light that I rarely realize I'm wearing it. For the next couple of years, this ring was perfect. I was still in love with it, and it felt like the right choice.

The Splintering Incident

Recently, something went wrong. I was at my parents' house, reaching for a drink, when I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my finger. I looked down and saw that the edge of my ring had splintered. A piece of the carbon fiber was puncturing the inside of my ring finger.

I pulled out what I could see, only to realize another piece was still embedded. It took some time and careful work, but I managed to remove the splinter completely.

Splintered Ring Edge

This was not normal wear and tear. I work at a keyboard all day. My hands are not subjected to heavy labor like an electrician or construction worker. A carbon fiber ring should not splinter like this during everyday use.

Customer Service and Warranty Experience

I contacted support to ask about their warranty terms and whether this could be remade due to the splintering defect.

Here's where things got frustrating. Patrick Adair Designs only offers email support. There's no live chat or phone line. When you send an email, any available agent replies, which can lead to inconsistent experiences.

The first response came from an agent named Lanz. He said they'd be happy to remake my ring for a $100 fee. I stared at that email, confused. Why would I pay to have a ring remade when it failed due to what appears to be a quality issue? I couldn't think of any reason a carbon fiber ring should splinter and pierce my finger under normal conditions.

I replied honestly: I wasn't interested in paying a fee. If I had to worry about paying for replacements due to material failure, I'd buy from another company. I initially chose them because I wanted to support what I thought was a small, independent brand. I still want to support small companies, but not at the expense of being charged for their defects.

A day later, Lanz replied again. He thanked me for sharing my concerns and clarified that their warranty only covers manufacturing and material defects for one year. Since my ring was past that window, I was on my own unless I paid the fee.

He said if I changed my mind, just let him know.

I replied one more time, reiterating that I wasn't interested and would look elsewhere for a replacement ring.

The Verdict

This review has been a journey to write, because my experience with Patrick Adair Designs has had real ups and downs.

The design itself? I'm still in love with it. The Stardust ring is unique, comfortable, and visually stunning. The glow-in-the-dark effect still delights me, and the meteorite inlay is a perfect touch for a space enthusiast. After two years of daily wear, I still looked at this ring every morning with the same appreciation.

Then came the splintering incident. A ring should not splinter during normal use. Carbon fiber is known for its durability and strength. For it to fail in a way that physically injured me was alarming, and it raised real questions about quality control.

The customer service experience added another layer of frustration. Email-only support means you never know who you'll get, and that inconsistency shows. One agent quoted a $100 replacement fee. Another said they'd do it as a one-time exception at no cost. Neither response initially addressed the core concern: this shouldn't have happened in the first place.

That disconnect matters. When you're dealing with a defect that caused injury, having to advocate for yourself through multiple email exchanges feels like unnecessary friction. For a brand at this price point, I'd expect smoother handling of quality issues.

But here's the part that changed my perspective: Patrick Adair Designs is making it right.

After further discussion, they agreed to replace my ring at no cost. No fee. No hassle. Just a commitment to stand behind the product. That matters. It shows they're willing to do the right thing even when the warranty window has technically closed.

There was one catch, though: Patrick Adair Designs no longer uses carbon fiber in any of their rings. So while they could remake the ring, they couldn't do it in carbon fiber. I thought about it for a while and ultimately decided to go back to cobalt chromium — the same metal as my original. Yes, it'll be silver again, but my wedding photos already have me wearing the silver version, so in a way it feels like coming full circle.

Who should buy this ring? If you love the design, this is a beautiful piece. The comfort and aesthetic are hard to beat. The Stardust concept is genuinely unique, and the carbon fiber version is incredibly lightweight for daily wear.

Who should think twice? If you want multi-channel support or expect seamless warranty handling, be prepared for some friction. Email-only support works, but it's not as responsive as live chat or phone.

The bottom line: I wanted to support a small, independent brand, and I still do. The design is exceptional. The material failure was real and concerning. But the company's willingness to make things right in the end tells me they care about standing behind their work.

That's worth something.

Rating: 4/5 — Gorgeous design, incredible comfort, and a company that ultimately made things right. The splintering incident and support friction keep this from a perfect score, but I'm confident recommending the Stardust ring to anyone who loves the concept.
