Looking to buy or sell a business?

I was not under the impression it was so easy to buy or sell a business these days. Up until today I never knew there was a market for buying and selling small businesses. I mean I know that you can sell out once your company is large and profitable, however this site I found today shows that you can sell even the smallest business.

If you are searching for a business for sale you should give BiZag a try. It’s a new site that offers a search engine for finding a business to purchase. If you would like to list your business for sale you can do it there as well. While they do charge a fee for listing your business it is quite inexpensive if you do sell the business.

I am not currently in the market for buying or selling a business however I wish I knew things like this existed before I let go of Codebowl Solutions. It was rather profitable and I imagine I could have sold it. Maybe in the future I will be in the market, who knows.

Sites like BiZag may be useful for those who do nothing but start up a site, then try to sell it off as a business. Hosting businesses, Design / Programming businesses and even those get rich quick scheme sites you see out there. I wonder how many people would buy into that garbage.

PayPerPost

It has been a while since I wrote about PayPerPost so I figured I would tell all of you about it again. I joined this website a while back now and have been using it on and off for content in this blog. If you have never heard of them you should check them out. Why not get paid for writing your honest opinions of products and services?

I was a bit skeptical at first however I have been paid for every post that I have included on this site. Will it make you millions? Doubt it. But it will help with the hosting costs associated with running your site. I am sure if all you did was write about PayPerPost topics you could bring in quite a bit of money but that is not how I use it.

You will not see anything on this blog from PayPerPost that I have not used or done in the past. I will not make up stories just to post about something like refinancing your home or 0% interest credit cards.

So far I hope all of the PayPerPost content has been helpful, let me know in your comments. If you run a site, this is a good place for ideas on what to write about and also a good source of income if you push yourself.

Review: Linkinus 1.3

Linkinus 1.3In the past I wrote a review on Linkinus. Since then I have been using it as my IRC client and have been loving it. It has a nice clean interface and allows you to write scripts (AppleScript) and Cocoa Plug-ins to add functionality to the client. The other day version 1.3 was released which added a few new features which I thought were worth reviewing. The first thing I will cover are the split chats. If you command-click on several IRC channels / Queries. You will be able to see all of them in the same window. It takes the window area and splits it if you will. This is a very nice feature however I believe it is lacking a bit of functionality just yet. It is a new feature so I am sure it will be enhanced as time goes on.

The very first thing I noticed is that when I had IRC running but Linkinus closed (detached mode) when I opened Linkinus I had split windows already set. It had been a few hours since I was in Linkinus and I was in some very high traffic channels. The channel windows were scrolling madly for about 5 minutes. It seemed like it was trying to “catch-up” to the IRC buffer. After about 5 minutes I had to close Linkinus, quit IRC and restart it all. The other area of the split chat’s that I feel needs improvement is how you switch windows. Yes you can use cmd+shift+down and cmd+shift+up and you can also click on the topic bar above the channel. However clicking in the channel window alone should change the active window. However it does not work like that.

Review: Fuser.Com

FuserAfter writing my review of Orgoo yesterday I was emailed by a woman named Emily. She said that she was from Fuser.com and wanted me to write a review of their service because they offered many of the features that Orgoo was lacking. Things such as the in-box columns that were re-sizable, etc..

While they do not yet offer the instant messaging which is a huge drawback for me. They do offer integration into MySpace and Facebook. The integration seems pretty good. Although it is not something that I would use on a daily basis. It allows you to quickly see who has messaged you, your top friends based on comment / message activity etc. Again this is not something that I would use on a daily basis so I will not go into too much detail about it here.

Review: Orgoo.com

OrgooA few months back I signed up for the Orgoo beta and had to wait until they opened it up for more accounts. Last week I received a notice that my account was ready to be used. I quickly went over to the site and signed up for my account. I have been testing this over the last few days and while it is a good service I do not think it is ready for most people to use as their primary e-mail / IM.

It is extremely easy to setup your IM or e-mail accounts for use on Orgoo, the interface is nice and easy to navigate. The entire design of the site is easy on your eyes so you will have no problems staying on the site for a while. There are no obtrusive flashing banner ad’s or anything like that.

Review: SecuritySpy

SecuritySpyOver the last few days I have been reading up on CarPuters and the things you can do with them. As you might have read in my post about the CarPuter there are a lot of things you can use them for. I was reading the forums over at mp3car.com and I found this post about a Dashcam video with GPS Speed overlay. I was intrigued to find a solution that I would be able to use with the Mac Mini I plan to integrate. During my search I found a great piece of software called SecuritySpy.

MetaX and tagChimp

tagChimpLast week I wrote a review on Handbrake and MetaX which lightly touched on tagChimp. This week I am going to review a nice web based service that MetaX has been tightly integrated with. tagChimp.

If you like me have a lot of movies in your iTunes library, you will like this web based service that is community driven. MetaX used to only search Amazon, but now has the ability to search tagChimp. Before this integration you were subject to low quality cover art and you had to settle for less than perfect tag data (unless you added the missing information from Amazon). Now however when you perform a search you get high quality artwork (generally a max height of 600px) and accurate tag data. Now if you do not find the movie you are tagging in tagChimp’s database, not to worry. When you click on Write in MetaX it will add the data to tagChimp (Only if you have not disabled sharing with tagChimp in MetaX’s preferences). At this time tagChimp is relatively new so not all movies have the chapter data associated with them. Tim is still hard at work making improvments to the site every day. Recently he made it so that if the movie you are editing does not have chapters or the chapters are named like Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc. it will not add the movie to the tagChimp database. This was done to ensure that the tagChimp data was the highest quality possible.

Psystar Mac Clones

There has been a lot of controversy as to whether or not the Psystar OpenPro Mac clone is real or not. Will it actually make it to the market or will Apple squash the idea. One person actually provided a video of their machine booting into Leopard. Now this is a cheap alternative to buying a Mac system but it is very far from a suggestion on my part. After watching this video and reading what I have about these machines I would never suggest that anyone buy one of these machines.

The sounds that come from this machine are hilarious. The fans make the system sound like a vacuum cleaner. Now there are some benefits to getting a machine like this. It is cheaper than buying a mac system, however you will not get any support from Apple. Now let’s weigh out the cons.

Review: Handbrake & MetaX

Since I bought my first Apple TV a while back I have been using a few applications to convert my DVD collection to a digital format. I do not know about you but I really got sick of searching through 300+ DVD movies to find what I wanted to watch.

Review: Hunt Valley Marriott

Through my lifetime I have had to stay in quite a few different hotels. Recently work has been calling me down to Timonium, MD and they have been putting me up in the Hunt Valley Marriott. I must say that this is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. Upon check-in I was greeted by very courteous staff who were set out to do anything they could to make your stay enjoyable.

However cost comes with the nice decor. The room I have been staying in have been around $220 per night. The bedding is some of the best I have seen. They have down comforters on every bed, nice fluffy pillows and the mattresses are very comfortable. The room I am staying in even has a flat panel LCD tv which is very nice.
