I was reading a post today on formykountry that gives you the choice of sex or ice cream. You are stranded on a tropical island with all the food/shelter etc. that you need. Every afternoon you get the choice of a companion of the opposite sex for 30 minutes or you can have ice cream. They talk about what a 19 year old with rocks in their pants will choose vs someone who knows what sex is all about. My solution to the issue of not being able to have both… One day choose the ice cream, save it somehow (even though it will melt), the next day have a little fun with the saved melted ice cream

Over the past few days I have been digging through the job sites posting my resume to just about everything that is available. This morning I came across this posting on craigslist that caught my eye. In the post the person is looking for a PHP Developer position and links to their online resume. Their resume is located at http://www.php-mysql-developer.com/. It is not odd that someone would put their resume online. I have mine right here. The part that really makes me laugh is highlighted in yellow on their resume and also shown below.
Even if you’ve never worked with a telecommuter before, I am so confident that you will not only like working with me but also start depending on me for all your programming needs. So if you have a requirement for a long term programmer, I would like to give you 2 weeks risk free trial! After 2 weeks, if you don’t like my speed, knowledge, efficiency, communication or anything else, just don’t pay for anything. I’m confident, after the trial period, I’ll be your programmer forever -:)
It seems that these days everything comes with a free trial. By looking at the persons name it seems as if they are from overseas. This is just too funny. If you dont like me after 2 weeks don’t pay for anything lol. What is the world coming to?
For those of you who know me and see me on a day to day basis you were probably accustomed to seeing me with the long hair in the picture to the left. It all began when I found out that I was going to have my first son Liam. I decided that I was going to grow my hair until he had his first haircut. When the time came for Liam to have his first haircut my hair was not that long. I decided that I was going to continue growing my hair so that when it was long enough I could cut it and donate it. At first I was going to donate it to Locks of Love however not that long ago I was dating a girl in NY state who had a daughter with both forms of Leukemia that a child can get and one was the rarest form. The woman tried to get a wig for her daughter from Locks of Love but was turned down because they did not see this as a long term illness. I have also heard that each year they throw away hair that is not used, I am not sure how true that is. What I do know is that a child cancer patient was turned down for a wig. I have decided to donate my hair to Wigs for Kids because they will not turn down a child cancer patient. If you are curious what I look like please keep reading, I have posted a picture for you to see
I am still actively looking for a full-time PHP development position with a local company or a company which will allow for remote work. If you have a position available or know of one please let me know. I am also looking for some sub-contract work to fill the void while searching for a job.
Tonight I went to Jingle Jam 2007 with my younger cousin Matt. It was a blast, among those playing were Matt White, INine, Boys Like Girls. Although I really do not like the one hit song that BLG has called Hero/Heroine I did enjoy the show that they put on. My favorite of the night though has to be INine. They were rocking the place and have some really good songs. The one you will most likely know is Seven Days of Lonely. I tried to embed the YouTube video on here however for some reason they have disabled the ability to embed the video into your own website. For this vide you will have to check it out on YouTube’s page.
INine is from the South Carolina area so if you are down that way (or hear of them playing in your area) definately go check them out. They were great with the fans also, unlike Girls Like Boys you did not have to buy there merchandise to get something signed. Although I bought a shirt not everyone there could afford to buy the merchandise. Below are pictures of what I had signed at the show. If you like the song, visit their website for more information on the band, you can also buy their single (Seven Days of Lonely) on the iTunes store. When they got on stage I was not sure what to expect. I had heard their single however I did not know what was to come from all of the songs they have that were not yet well known. They did a kick-ass job rocking the stage and I look forward to seeing them play again. Currently they only have a single for sale however they did mention that Arista Records had signed them and they would be releasing a CD sometime in 2008. They did give a month I believe but I do not recall when exactly it is going to be.
I am currently looking for a PHP Developer position at a company that is local to my area or something that will allow remote employees. I am interested in contract positions as well as an on the books employee. If you know of anything please feel free to contact me. All of my information is located on my resume. I have 8 years of experience with PHP/MySQL and I am a Zend Certified Engineer with PHP 4.
Tonight I personally lost some faith in the hard drive giant Western Digital. I was reading an article that was talking about the new MyBook 1TB external drive. Currently there are work-arounds for this but when you install the drive and the software that it comes with it does not allow you to share media files like MP3, WMV across your network. These are not the only 2 extensions that are disallowed, there are actually more than 30 that are restricted.
I am not sure why Western Digital thinks it is their place to police the files and what is shared on a network. In the future I can see this software being installed on the drive hidden from view where it will take a nice little utility that someone hacks together to remove the DRM protection. I would be very surprised to see a drive that had DRM protection that was not removable by flashing a ROM chip or clearing a partition but it looks like that is the way of the future.
I guess I will have to stop buying Western Digital and move over to Seagate drives. You can read more on this Wired post.
A while back I signed up for a private beta of the website Hulu.com. Tonight I finally got the invitation e-mail with my login information. I never have time anymore to sit down and watch my TV Shows. I am always using my computer to watch DVD’s or movies purchased from the iTunes store. So when I miss an episode I always had to find a way to download it and watch it. I have a 23" Apple wide screen display so it is nice to watch movies/tv on. The only problem I have found with some streaming sites like Netflix is that the quality is not that great when you are in full screen mode. With Hulu.com however full screen is actually really good quality.
At Hulu, you’ll find a vast selection of premium programming across all genres and content types including hit shows, movies, clips and more.
Hulu offers current primetime shows like The Office, Prison Break, Bionic Woman, House and Bones, and episodes from TV classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Miami Vice, Arrested Development and more. We’ve also partnered with premier content owners like E! Entertainment, FUEL TV, SciFi Network and USA Networks to add to our growing collection of premium programming.
I love the fact that now there is a way to legally watch the shows that I miss on TV. I am not sure how long they have to wait in order to post it on their website but I am sure it is something like 8 days. I say 8 days because most of the network sites wait that long before they post them on their video players.
Now why use Hulu.com if you can watch the TV shows on the network sites anyway? Well I would rather use one site than have to visit 10 different network sites to watch my shows. I cannot wait to see how well this website does. I just hope they have the allotted bandwidth this is going to take. Right now things seem fast and really good quality but when they bring this out of beta I do wonder how the quality will be. Also Hulu.com also offers one feature that I love. Take a look at the video below, this is a FULL episode of House M.D. You also do not have to embed an entire episode, they have a way for you to just select a clip and embed just that. So if there was something funny on a show you want to share, you can embed that 2 minute clip.
If you are one of the people who like the idea of the stacks in leopard but hate the way that they expand, take a look at Quay. This nice little app is shareware and will cost you 7 if you want to use more than one Quay item in your dock. I like the idea of this application I just wish it had more options to it so that you could completely customize how it looks when you click the Quay item. I personally like the Leopard stacks over Quay. However I do also wish that you had the ability to customize those as well. I would love to be able to see small icons like you can in Quay and still keep the look and effect of the Leopard stacks.
I look forward to seeing what else they bring to Quay for enhancements. The most significant would be to allow you to customize the display. Have you tried Quay? What are your thoughts of it?
I have decided to sell my Mac Pro Quad Core System (also listed here on craigslist), Below are the specs and the link to craigslist. I am looking for someone local because I no longer have the boxes and shipping alone would cost you a fortune. I am asking $3000 or best reasonable offer.
- 23" Apple Cinema Wide Screen Display
- Intel Xeon 2.66 Quad Core
- 256MB Nvidia 7300 GT
- 4GB memory (2gb chips)
- 8x Dual Layer Super Drive (CD/DVD +/- RW)
- Drive Bay 1: 250 GB SATA 2 Drive
- Drive Bay 2: 500 GB SATA 2 Western Digital Drive
- Drive Bay 3: 500 GB SATA 2 Western Digital Drive
- Drive Bay 4: EMPTY
- Bluetooth
- Airport (Wi-Fi)
- Apple Wireless Keyboard (bluetooth)
- Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse (bluetooth)
- Mac OS X 10.5 Retail (Leopard)
- AppleCare Extended Warranty on both display and Mac Pro System
- iSight External Camera (magnetic mount to display)
This system has been used for about 7-8 months. This system runs really fast and is just more than I really need. I WILL NOT ship this product as I do not have the boxes for the items anymore and the weight alone would kill you on shipping costs.
The ONLY Issue with the system is with the keyboard, it was knocked off my desk by my son and the battery cover on the back has 1 of the screw fasteners broken. The total cost for everything from Apple is 4800 (I did not include the keyboard, mouse or iSight in the Apple cost).
The base price for the quad core Mac Pro is $2499 (this is without all the extras) and the price of the display is $899
