Sunglasses Trick

With the music from this video and the way the main guy moves all you can think about is this is lame. I am not sure if this is real or not and the idea that this video was edited was sure to hit my mind. Although I doubt it is real it was entertaining to watch. If this is real I give props to those who made this. The part that I question being real is the scene with the car. Oh so now you are wondering and just have to watch the video to find out what I am talking about.

Leopard Pre-Preview Review

SHRIKEE has posted a review with his thoughts on Leopard. While I cannot object to his thoughts I do think he should have gone more in depth on some of the new features in leopard.

Cocoa Bootcamp

Hi Everyone. As you might have noticed I started up a Chip-In event at the top of my sidebar on the right. I have been programming PHP for the last 7 years and recently made the switch to Mac OS X. I am starting to get into development for OS X by reading books, getting help from others on IRC, etc. I would love to attend the Cocoa Bootcamp taught by none other than Aaron Hillegass however my budget will not allow for it.

If I could take this course it would change the course of my career for the better. I was thinking about trying to find an employer who would pay for the course while I signed a contract stating I would work for them for X years. However I do not thing that will be possible. I decided to give this a shot. If I am unable to make enough money from this ALL proceeds from this WILL be put towards me attending the course.

Even if you can only chip-in $1, it’s welcomed by me ;)

SEO Friends = Spam

Over the last week or so I have found a lot of spam in my inbox.  It seems somehow I was automatically subscribed to a Google Group!  I am not sure how this happened however I also see I am not the only one that is suffering from this.  Google does not make it easy to report such things to them so I figured I would at least share how I got out of it.

Rather than sending REMOVE e-mails to the group I found it easier to just visit the group page.  From there you can unsubscribe and hope that it works ;)

One would think that Google of all companies would be all over this and shut down the group.  The group name is seo-friends-link-exchanging-group so if anyone from Google happens to have stumbled onto my low-traffic blog do whatever you have to do in order to stop them ;)

Review: Linkinus

LinkinusGenerally I tend to spend quite a bit of time on IRC in help channels relevant to programming. I have the luxury of working from home so I do not always have other colleagues around so I can ask them questions, etc. Having a good IRC client that is friendly on the eyes is something that is a must for me. Prior to migrating to the Mac platform I used a few IRC clients. The most well knows is mIRC however I did not spend much time on that client because it had it’s own scripting language. I figured there was no point in learning another language only for scripting mIRC. I eventually found Klient and fell in love with it. It was geared more towards the developer. It allowed scripting but also allowed you to create plug-ins using various languages.

with the migration over to the Mac it has taken a while to find a nice IRC client. I have been stuck using Xchat Aqua which is nice but lacks a lot of features for developers, it also lacked quite a bit on how many scripts were out there for you to use. Today another IRC user drudge recommended that I try Linkinus. I had never heard of this IRC client before so I decided to give it a shot. The first thing I noticed was that it is interfaced with Growl which is a very nice notification system. You can set it to notify you when a pre-set highlight word is said in any channel, or when you receive a private message.

PS3: MLB 07: The Show

MLB 07: The ShowI bought the game MLB 07: The Show
for the Playstation 3 about a month ago and have actually had some time to play it. It is a pretty good game. I love the fact that when you go online and download updated rosters for off-line use.

I have found that the on-line play for this game is not that great. There are a lot of people with bad connections who drop out and then there are those who get mad when you score a few runs in the first inning and bail out of the game. I have been playing a Franchise game using the Boston Red Sox as my team. Franchise mode is really nice, you have to play each game as well as control ticket prices, vendor prices, and even parking prices. When you are doing really good overall you can charge more for products and tickets. If you are doing really bad then the customers will not pay a lot for products or tickets. The AI in this game really surprised me though. There has only been one instance where they called my guy out at 1st when he was never tagged. The batter hit a line drive to 1st and they caught it without ever tagging the guy on 1st (I checked the replay several times) he was called out as well so they got a double play.

NuSphere PhpED for Mac OS X

Back in the days where I used Windows for my primary OS I used to use PhpED as my web development IDE from time to time.
When I finally made the switch over to Mac OS X I found that I could not run PhpED under OS X and had to find an alternative. I started to use Zend Studio and even with the low level of support I continue to use it.

Parallels Virtual Desktop enables our Mac and Linux users to take the full advantage of PhpED features, including the latest additions.
From drag and drop of the Macintosh PHP file to PHP Editor as shown on the picture

Today I received an e-mail that stated that you could now run PhpED under OS X, it seems a lot of people have been asking for it. I was so disappointed when I went to their website and found out that you can only run it on Mac OS X / Linux while running under Parallels. Now Parallels is Virtual Machine software which will allow you to run different Operating Systems in a virtual window. While they do take it a step further with coherence mode you still have to run windows in order to use it.

The main question on my mind is if you use PhpED as your primary development software why would you run OS X in the first place. Not to mention why would you do your development under a virtual server.

The new iPod Touch

With the release of the iPhone there was no longer a need for a stylus. This was an amazing breakthrough on Apple’s part. Now the iPhone is a phone and an iPod rolled into one device. What if you do not need the phone functionality? Welcome the iPod Touch. It seems that the iPod Touch has all of the functionality from the iPhone that pertains to the iPod.

You can browse your library with cover flow, play songs, podcasts, video’s etc. Probably the best part about the iPod Touch is that it has built in Wi-Fi so you can browse the net from anywhere that offers wireless access.

The iPod Touch looks really appealing to me as I currently have a Nano. I never got into the whole video in your hand craze. I bought my Nano so that I could use it while running and track my progress with Nike+. The Nano was the only iPod that could be used with the Nike+ running kit so my options when purchasing an iPod were slim.

I was wondering if you could use the iPod Touch with the Nike+ running kit so I fired up my browser and went over to Apple’s site to chat with a sales representative. It turns out that those who use the Nike+ kit are still stuck with the nano.

Apple choose to make the Nike+ kit only compatible with the Nano because they use flash drives and have no movable parts which make them ideal for running. You can use any other iPod for running however it is not suggested and according to Apple it will not work with the Nike+ running kit.

If anyone reading this has tested the Nike+ kit with the iPod Touch and was successful at getting it to work please let me know. I know it’s not ideal to run with the iPod Touch but I would like to have 1 iPod and have more functionality than that Nano supports.

Mac: Quick Tip

Tonight while I was in #MacOSX on Freenode something was brought to my attention. Agatha said that if you drag a whole heap of images and drop them on the Preview.app icon they will all open up in the same preview window. You can use this to preview each picture and if you want to delete them from your disk you just hit command-delete. This is a great tip and it will be very useful for me. Thanks for passing this along Agatha ;)
